TEC TEAM 2024
• Progress in water bill validation, with plans to bring
this service in-house by 2025 for improved integration
with gas and power offerings.
• Strategic updates to Optima systems and evaluation of
future proposals to ensure continued efficiency.
Carbon and Energy Reduction
TEC’s efforts to support members in achieving
their decarbonisation goals took a major
step forward with the appointment of
the Head of Carbon Reduction in
August 2023.
Work began on baselining the
membership’s engagement with carbon
reduction measures, initially using data
available from: Estates Management
records; routine member interactions; previous
engagement with framework additional services.
Some indicative planning was also undertaken by mapping
members and their proximity to district heat zones, minewater,
and wind power, and well as their electrical demand and the
suitability of their demand profile for the extensive use of solar
power. The key outcomes of these were that, amongst the
membership:
Outreach and guidance activities included:
• Launch
of a carbon reduction survey to better
understand member needs, with responses representing
30% of the membership.
• Hosting webinars and discussion groups on topics such
as BEMS, district heating, heat pumps, and
heritage building challenges, encouraging peer-topeer knowledge sharing.
• Publishing
blogs, case studies, and one-on-one
consultations, tailored to members’ specific requirements.
Looking Ahead
As we close another successful year, TEC remains committed to
innovation, growth, and sustainability. Our focus will remain on:
1. Ensuring budget certainty and value delivery through
flexible, transparent trading strategies.
2. Expanding services that help members achieve their
carbon reduction and sustainability targets.
3. Strengthening the collaborative spirit that has
been the foundation of our success for three decades.
Thank You
• Rapid
This year would not have been possible without the continued
trust and engagement of our members, the generous support of
the Board, and the dedication of the TEC team. Together, we
have faced challenges head-on and created lasting impact in
the higher and further education sectors.
• Several members have estate which may be required to
connect with district heat.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of this year’s reflections
or learn more about how we can support your energy needs,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
• There is capacity to install at least five times more solar
cost effectively.
retirement of CHP could materially affect our
portfolio.
• Our portfolio emits 750,000 tCO2e/yr, about 55:45
gas and electricity. There remain questions over the
most cost-effective decarbonisation routes for either
fuel.
Here’s to another year of partnership, innovation, and
shared success.
